FILA + NYCOLLECTIVE PROJECT |
|
|
|
OVERVIEW:
The FILA + NYCOLLECTIVE PROJECT is an inspired partnership
between Fila and New York Collective for the Arts. Providing
a platform for artists to showcase their creative works, the
endeavor is strengthened by Fila’s commitment to l'arte nello sport, as well as NYCOLLECTIVE'S artistic
talent and dedication to fostering new art.
DETAILS:
We came up with the concept of ARTISTS PLAY
TOO/TWO because of the misconception that most artists hate sports or don't play
them. As artists ourselves we at the NYCOLLECTIVE know
that's just not true. We feel that sports and art are actually
very
closely related. The beauty of movement, the drama of suspense
and the chaos of passion, all exist as elements in both worlds.
Both worlds have the capacity to thrill and disgust, evoke
feelings of love and hate, all at the same time.
We chose these artists for this series not only because their
work is exceptional, but because sports are integral to each
of these artists' lives. We knew that they would have
a lot to draw on and they
didn't
disappoint. In fact
they hit the preverbial home run.
PHASE 2: ARTISTS PLAY TWO - PRESENT
The second phase of the project, titled ARTISTS PLAY TWO, is a a worldwide print run of t-shirts designed by several of the artists featured in the Artists Play Too Series. This collection continues to bridge the artists' personal reflection of the union of art and sport, with Fila's vision of l'arte nello sport, a presentation of the beauty of performance and the personal fulfillment of participation. The collection will be available at Fila specialty stores and at Fila.com. Each season will unveil a new series of shirts by a new series of artists.
On August 24, 2006, Fila and New York Collective for the Arts hosted a special
in-store launch event. Open to the public and held at Fila's award-winning
flagship store in Manhattan, the event jump-started the second phase
of the FILA + NYCOLLECTIVE PROJECT. The party celebrated the unveiling
of t-shirts from the Fall 06 line. In addition, attendees had
the chance to see a special sneak preview of designs from
the Spring collection. During the event, the ARTISTS PLAY TWO designers
were on hand to talk about their creative process and to auction off
original tennis-inspired art benefiting New York Collective for the Arts. View PHOTOS from the AP2 Launch Event.
Fall 06 Designers include: Nam Kim, Jimm Lasser, Larry Mayorga & Youth of Tomorrow.
